The Survey/Le Sondage

The WHRN's Women's Health Surveillance project launched the second phase of the women's health surveillance website on Wednesday, February 13, 2008. The Survey is a searchable database of grey literature, that will link women's health practitioners, policy makers, health authorities, and women's groups to a range of resources on women's health, including international, national, and provincial documents.

The Source/La Source is an online bilingual women’s health data directory inspired by Australia’s Women's Health Victoria Gender Data Directory. The Source will include descriptions of sources of information on women's health indicators, including Health Status, Health Determinants, and Health Services. The aim of the directory is to improve access to data, offer a critical lens through which to view data, and to encourage more efficient and gender-sensitive research. The directory is designed for use by researchers associated with the Women’s Health Research Network, other MSFHR networks, policy makers, program/service planners, and students.

The Synthesis/La Synthèse is a bilingual resource centre where health planners, policy makers, and researchers can access synthesis papers or reviews on a variety of women’s health topics. This section includes reports, briefs, position papers, and fact sheets on critical health issues.

The official launch of the third and final phase of the Source-Survey-Synthesis tool, The Synthesis, was held on Tuesday April 7th, 2009. The event took place at the British Columbia Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health in Vancouver, BC, and was linked virtually to researchers across the world via WebEx.

The Source/La Source was launched in Prince George on October 18th, 2007. The Source makes it easy for:

  • Health policy developers to gather evidence on sex, gender and diversity;
  • Researchers to explore the “gaps” in Canadian knowledge; and
  • Students and journalists to find Canadian health statistics.

All media were invited to attend the launch (PDF) of The Source/La Source on October 18th, 2007 from 3:30 PM to 4:15 PM at the Coast Hotel on 770 Brunswick Street, Prince George, BC. Click here for details on the launch.

Development of The Source is an ongoing process and the directory will be continuously expanded, updated, and improved based on user feedback and reviews. Development and maintenance of The Source/La Source is funded by the Women’s Health Research Network which is one of eight Health of Population Networks funded by the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research.  The Source is available in English and French thanks to support from Health Canada.

On May 5th, 2006, 11am-1pm, the Women’s Health Research Network hosted a videoconference to launch the Gendered Data Directory. The British Columbia Gendered Data Directory is a provincial resource that will serve as an entry point for finding data sources, descriptions and direct links to the best available data on selected indicators of women’s health.
